Battle of Galwan
Bollywood icon Salman Khan is preparing to star in a gritty war drama called Battle of Galwan, set against the true events of the June 2020 Galwan Valley skirmish between Indian and Chinese soldiers. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the movie is sure to be a gritty homage to the valour and martyrdom of the soldiers who battled against impossible odds in this ferocious, weaponless hand-to-hand combat.
It is not just an impending movie, as this is also the sincerest tribute to the 20 Indian bravadoes who battled hand-to-hand with the Chinese soldiers in the frozen peaks of Ladakh. How does this become personal to Punjab? Well, four soldiers belonged to our very land: Sepoy Gurtej Singh, who killed twelve before succumbing to his wounds himself, receiving the posthumous award of Vir Chakra, Sepoy Gurbinder Singh, just 22 years old and from Sangrur, whose marriage plans were cruelly dashed to death, and from the village Seel in Patiala, the young son lit the pyre for Naib Subedar Mandeep Singh, whose battlefield demise left the Indian Army with one more naib subedar taken down, and the young father to a child, all just 41 years young, Naib Subedar Satnam Singh, whose body came home, draped with the tricolor by his mother and daughter, who bore the weight of the nation themselves. The Ghatak Platoon, the Punjab Regiment, played a played a pivotal role alongside 16 Bihar Regiment. Back home, Chandigarh mourned with massive funerals, ex-gratia payments, and tributes from then-CM. Galwan redefined Punjab as the Indian Army's 'Land of Warriors', this film is expected to stir that same pride and pain.
